One of the best things about going to college is that you are with other young people your age from all across the world. IT is the first time that many of you will be regularly sitting in classes with people from different cultures and backgrounds than yours. I got to admit, there are times that communication can be really tough, their English is probably not the best, and you may only be able to speak one or two words in their native language. It is not an ideal communication arrangement. But there is a way to solve your problem. IF you are at a good school, there are likely classes for anything from Chinese to Portuguese, and from French to Dutch. You should take full advantage of this environment, as it well help you a lot later on in life.
[post_ads]Most Americans only speak English, and may know a few words in Spanish or French that they miraculously remember from school. That isn’t enough for today’s global economy. While you don’t need to be fluent in a second language, it is really helpful if you can hold a conversation. College is the perfect environment for you to improve your language skills. If you can claim that you speak German or Portuguese there is a good chance that many employers will interview, and even hire you as opposed to a different candidate who only speaks English. Today’s economy is so interconnected, that you need to be able to at least hold a conversation in a foreign language to get ahead in life. Sadly, College will likely be the last chance that you will have to learn a second language, and to that end you should really make the best of this opportunity, as you will likely not have another.
